The Era of Social Media: Exposing Fake Witches and Spiritual Influencers vs. Real-Born and Gifted Witches
In the age of social media, platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook (Meta), and Twitter (X) have become flooded with people claiming to be witches, tarot readers, and healers. But how many of them are truly authentic? Unfortunately, more and more individuals are using spirituality as a way to gain followers, likes, and fame—without any real knowledge or connection to the practices they preach.
You’ll see these so-called witches on TikTok, performing quick spells or tarot readings in under 60 seconds. Their flashy videos rack up thousands of views, but the truth behind them is often questionable. On Instagram Reels and Facebook (Meta), these influencers showcase perfect altars, crystal collections, and “spellwork” that’s more about aesthetics than true spiritual practice. Meanwhile, on Twitter (X), they tweet vague spiritual affirmations, raking in likes and retweets, but offering little to no substance.
The problem with these false practitioners goes beyond misleading aesthetics. Magic and spiritual practices, when performed incorrectly, can be dangerous. A poorly cast spell can backfire, causing harm to the person it was meant to help or even drawing negative energy into their life. This isn’t something to take lightly—magic is powerful, and in the wrong hands, it can be destructive. For example, someone on TikTok might demonstrate a "quick love spell" without understanding the consequences, leading to unhealthy attachments or harmful outcomes for the individuals involved.
Similarly, a false tarot reading on these platforms can emotionally mislead someone, leaving them confused or making life decisions based on faulty guidance. People often seek out readings during vulnerable times in their lives, and receiving inaccurate advice can steer them in the wrong direction, adding to their distress rather than providing clarity.
Then, there’s the issue of money. Many of these fake spiritual practitioners charge exorbitant fees for their services through DMs or personalized requests. Whether it’s for a botched spell, a meaningless tarot reading, or other spiritual services, people can end up spending a lot of money for nothing in return—except maybe more problems.
It’s also important to recognize that real-born and gifted witches are incredibly rare. While magic can be learned, true authenticity in the craft comes from being born with the gift. Real-born witches have an innate connection to the spiritual world, allowing them to perform magic naturally—even without the use of tools. These witches possess a deep, unshakable power that cannot be mimicked by someone simply trying to gain followers on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook (Meta), or Twitter (X).
As someone who values authenticity in magic and spirituality, I believe it's important to remind people to look beyond the surface. Seek out those who have real knowledge, experience, and a commitment to the craft. Don’t be fooled by follower counts, viral videos, or flashy posts—true magic comes from within, not from social media validation. And remember, a fake practitioner can cause real harm, while true magic comes from those with genuine, inborn power.
